People are people so why should it be . . . you and I should get along so a-w-f-u-l-l-y

If you're looking for a cohesive essay, look elsewhere.

Because today is probably best described as a

Small Works Smattering,

or if you prefer,

Monday Melange.

First of all, although people are people,
purple is purple.

And this, class, is a BLUE Tootsie Pop wrapper.

But many thanks to all of you who have participated in this discussion (read: argument) and contributed your opinions. It has been enlightening and I have to admit that when I took the first wrapper (the purple one) to the paint aisle, it did seem awfully close to some of the blues and less close to the purples.

Did that change my stance? Absolutely not.
Because I don't give up that easily.

There are so many things besides eyesight
which figure into our perceptions.

And surely something as grapey-grape-grape-grape as a grape Tootsie Pop must come in a purple wrapper. No matter what it may look like on your computer monitor.

I'm just glad that all of us,
the blue people and the purple people,
can come together at Small Works in a spirit of bipartisan cooperation and talk about our differences. With no rude outbursts from the floor of the house.

Perhaps the thing I like best about the color of the blue wrapper (which was presented to me on behalf of some readers/family members) is how well it coordinates with the best treat from my Phoenix trip:

Although blogging has not transformed my life, nor has it landed me a book deal (and Meryl Streep has definitely not agreed to star . . . yet) it has yielded some benefits, the best of which must be the acquisition of several new friends.

While on vacation I was able to meet LuAnne over guacamole and she graciously presented me with this beautiful pillow, to which my poor photo skills do absolutely no justice. It is stunning, and I shall decorate my new studio space around it. Thanks, LuAnne!

Although the guacamole was mediocre, the company was marvelous and we had a swell time and found out we have much in common, some of which was quite weird and led me to suspect

we may be twins separated at birth. That makes me wonder how many other twins I have hiding out there in blogland, which in turn makes me determined to press on, even though blogging takes time away from work.

Luckily, I'm still managing to squeeze in stitching
from time to time.

In fact, there has been some additional birdly fun
in the studio of late:

I'm particularly fond of the green one, and am eager to start getting them in frames. My booth in Chicago this year is going to be full of surprises!

And speaking of surprises,
last but not least,

Hannah was hanging around the studio the other day and commented that she was "itching to stitch," so I handed her some of the plain scraps from the old quilt I was cutting birds from, some black perle cotton and a needle, and said "go to it!" and she whipped out this little number:

Upon seeing Frida emerge (no pencil, just drawing with her needle)
I had this reaction:

My kids scare me sometimes.

Who knew Hannah could stitch?

And who would even CONSIDER going at it
with no pattern whatsoever??!!

Go Hannah, Go! I can't wait to see what you do next.
Actually, I've been saying that most of Hannah's life.

And since my fancy new printer arrived this morning,
I can't wait to see what I do next.

(But I'm a little nervous!)

Maybe I should turn it over to Hannah
and see what she comes up with . . .

ok, i confess to new printer envy, mine is fading fast. so please do show & tell once you get better acquainted.

love your birdly creations, and hannah's amazing stitched frieda improv-- wow! just sewing a button on tidily is a challenge for me.

and speaking of twins s-a-b, in a further strange but true coincidence, i'd put up a pillow post this morning. so we have almost-twin photos today.

hope we can meet for another fun guacamole lunch soon!

Well, LuAnne, our posts will in no way resemble one another because you are a truly splendid photographer, while I must again apologize for making your pillow seem less exquisite than it actually is. So, people, head on over to Invisible Woman and check out LuAnne's b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l pillows!

Guacamole anyday, BTW.

I love that our children are so expressive and just do things...because they are there. Yay Hannah.

Love the birdies. And now I must head over to see Luanne's pillows!

Wow! That is an amazing piece by Hannah! Is it genetic or osmotic? If the latter, I'm going to come live at your house for a while.

Now I have the song about purple people eaters stuck in my head. LOL.
Love your new birds, and Hannah's work is AMAZING. My jaw dropped too!

Hannah says it could well be osmotic, since she's the one who grew up spending an inordinate amount of time hanging around my studio. I was similarly astounded when I took her to an antique shop in VA last winter and she was able to speak intelligently about all kinds of pottery and glassware. That day she simply reminded me that when not in the studio, she was growing up in an antique store. So be careful where your kids spend all their time -- there are lingering effects.

Fabulous Hannah!!! I so love your creations but my mouth would have been open when I saw Hannah's creation too. Before I even read who it was I knew. Wowsers!
