Drumroll . . . .

And now, as promised,  what will surely turn out to be
one of my all-time favorite Small Works installments . . .

 Hannah's Francis Hinckley's
2011 Sr. Show Sketchbook

That's as far as she got before her show -- I'm sure there will be many more pages to come.  Hannah does all her drawings with no preliminary pencil work -- just goes at it with her black pen, and when mistakes happen, she turns them into something. In her big, beautiful and expensive moleskine!  What a great (insane!) way to work!  I could learn a lot from her flexibility.

All of Hannah's images will be available as prints at her Etsy shop -- www.vintagescrewball.etsy.com, just as soon as she can get them listed.

Thank you for the excellent show and tell, Hannah --
and now . . . time for recess!

(Happy Cinco de Mayo -- if anyone has access to some really excellent guacamole, would you please take a bite and think warm thoughts for a shivering Minnesotan?)

These are FANTASTIC! What a fun thing to wake up to this morning. My favorite? It's almost impossible to choose. Maybe "Silhouette Artist" or "Derby/Apple/Owl/Lightbulb Stack"?

This is a fine way to greet my day Susan, thank you Hannah! What a talent. I love the thoughts as hat - Look Closer - The Silhouette Artist is brilliant - Soft-Serve - oh my. It's funny, but I found myself looking at these with embroidery eyes. Simply marvelous works!

Amazing. Absolutely amazing. I'm so bummed we couldn't make it down for her show... We really wanted too, we just couldn't make it happen.

The gene pool at your place is really deep. I love how HFH is similar but so different from SMH. I especially love the tongue in cheek humor of pages like "My Creative Process" and "I Like Soft Serve." The whole collection just blows me away. Especially when you say it just flows out of her black pen. Well done, Mom. You and Dad did good work.

Wow Susan. So much fun reading these posts about Hannah's work. The happiness and quirkiness shines out of each of her delightful creations. I think your creative exuberance has been a wonderful example to that fine daughter of yours. Congratulations on her graduation. Your husband looks like mine last weekend at my daughters. "Just point me to the boxes" he mumbled.

Astonishing that all this just flows from Hannah's pen... what a brave way to work, and likely what makes each drawing feel so fresh and honest. I'm in awe of Hannah's talent, and that deep Hinckley gene pool. Congratulations to Hannah & to you, proud Mom! Completely wonderful.

What a fun, bold style she has! I especially love the soft serve, and the stacked person with owl and light bulb. Looking forward to more....
